Budget Changes Workbook
This workbook will help you consider budget related risks and understand potential benefits of each option to make informed decisions.
This tool supports data collection and analysis activities. The basic procedures are to:
- List each action and its impact in reducing expenses or increasing revenues.
- Estimate the positive effects that may result from each action.
- Estimate the severity of each action's impact on the environment and life safety.
- Estimate the financial severity of losses or added costs associated with each action
- Estimate the impacts of each action on your ability to fulfill your mission.
- Estimate the potential adverse impact of each action on your employees, students and customers.
- Estimate the potential adverse impact of each action on the reputation and image of your department or college.
- Determine if the action may compromise Separation of Duties. This step provides a framework for best assigning responsibilities among the staff remaining after budget reductions.
- Review your scores and note which of the possible reductions actions will be implemented

Steps to complete the Risk Assessment-Budget Changes Workbook:
- Download and save the file to your computer
- Upon launching the file you will see a table of contents on the left side of the screen (as illustrated below). Users can navigate through sections of the tool by selecting any of the subject areas:
Risk Assessment – Budget Changes, Table of Contents and Subject Areas - Start on the "Introduction" page, by populating the "User Information" fields at the top right corner. (This file can now be saved with a new file name of your choice.) *
- Populate each of the subject areas in order to complete the workbook.
- Results can be viewed from the "Implementation" section.
- This Risk Assessment data can be exported and saved in a ".csv" file format for integration into ERMIS. The "Export" button is located in the "Implementation" tab under the table of contents as illustrated below.
Risk Assessment – Budget Changes, Implementation: Export for ERMIS Integration - The saved ".csv" results can be for ERMIS upload and future reference.
* Please note: The "User Information" field entries found on the Introduction page of each workbook should represent a unique combination of values. Exports which containing the identiacal combination of "Location Name," "Department," "User" and "Date" fields will result in replacement of existing data.
