We Remember Ron Lundy

Posted March 15, 2010

Pioneer of Top 40 AM radio, New York icon and 44-year AFTRA member Ron Lundy died March 15 of a heart attack. He was 75.

Since 1965, Lundy’s voice was heard all over New York City, often exclaiming “Hello Love... this is Ron Lundy from the Greatest City in the World!”

In 1960, when Dan Ingram hired Lundy at WIL in St. Louis, it began a career that took Lundy from the No. 1 spot in St. Louis, to the No. 1 spot in New York, where he would stay until he retired in 1997.

Ingram recalled his friend and colleague.

“When you talked to Ron, you wish you had a little more time to talk to him. He was the nicest guy in the world and the best friend in the world,” Ingram said. “He was so friendly and warm, not just on the radio. He was the kind of guy you talk to for 15 minutes, and you wished he lived next door; he was a good union man. I’ve lost my best friend.”

After 30 years in New York radio, Lundy retired in 1997 and moved to Bruce, Miss. with his wife Shirley, whom he is survived by as well as  two children and two grandchildren.
