Greetings, fellow AFTRA Members!

As the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee for our 2011 National Convention (and a proud Seattle native), I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you how enthused we are at the prospect of hosting so many of you, come this July 17-24. 

With your participation, we're looking forward to a productive -- even historic -- Convention proper. But we're also excited about showcasing the beauty and the bounty of the Pacific Northwest, including the foods, the natural wonders, and the wealth of performance talent representing both our Seattle and Portland locals.

The Aquarium, located on the downtown Seattle waterfront, will provide the setting for our Social Night, and we fully expect Mount Rainier to be a magnificent backdrop.

Please keep watching this space for regular updates, along with tips for family activities during and after Convention week and other ways to enhance your Seattle and Northwest experience.

Welcome from Steve Krueger, AFTRA Seattle Local President

Perry Como got it right way back in 1968 when he sang about the “Bluest Skies You’ll Ever See are in Seattle.”

You’ll all feel right at home as we gather July 17-24 to celebrate our own history - and map our future as we move into the 21st century. Our convention planning team, which includes our colleagues and friends from the Portland Local, are putting together an event to remember.

In fact, I think you’ll like it here so much that you’ll want to stay for awhile and look around. We’ll have lots of information – before and during the convention – about the incredible things you and your families can see and do in Washington, Oregon and 90 minutes up the road in British Columbia.

Come, do our members’ work, enjoy an evening drink on an open-air deck overhanging Puget Sound and then take your family for a hike on a deserted ocean beach or flower-swept alpine trail.

It’s all here, in what we know will be one of our Union’s most inspiring gatherings in one of our nation’s most inspiring regions.

Welcome to AFTRA’s 2011 National Convention in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. We’re looking forward to seeing you.

From The City of Roses to our Brothers and Sisters from across the land: Welcome, and welcome indeed!

You converge on the Pacific Northwest from the marble halls of Washington to the honeyed streets of Atlanta; from Miami's sands to Nashville's Opry; from the golden plains of Texas to the cresting whitecapped peaks of Denver. Gathered together for the 2011 National Convention, you symbolize what AFTRA stands for: The people who entertain and inform America -- a passionate, powerful body with nationwide reach and worldwide impact.

The sun sets on the Northwest coast, but look beyond it, to the bright dawn awaiting. Converging technology and converging unions bring us hope; being outpaced by the new, and opposed by those who would undo us bring us challenge. This is true of all new days, and we are able and ready for the work.

Portland is pleased to stand with Seattle as your host for our convention. Our wish for this time together: convergence! 

And along with it, while you are here in the Emerald City, that you enjoy all the Northwest offers: its bread, its roses!
