AFTRA Works for You and Your Family

Posted July 22, 2009

“If you’re in it to have a career, working without an AFTRA contract is only thinking of today. Looking back on my career, I’m certainly happy I worked under AFTRA because it provides me with health benefits and financial security I wouldn’t otherwise enjoy.”
                                                                                                — AFTRA member George Guidall

Membership has benefits

In addition to fair wages, good benefits, and safe working conditions, AFTRA members enjoy a wide range of member-only benefits:
• Career guidance, professional development workshops, and special events
• Submission access to audition and casting workshops promoting diversity in entertainment
• Federal credit union membership
• Discounts for medical and dental healthcare services, emergency relief funds, and medical assistance
• Discounts on travel, Dell computers, pet services, moving vans, education, RV rentals, automotive services, and many other products and services through Union Plus
• Legal assistance
• Educational scholarships for you and your dependents

“I always know AFTRA has my health and welfare and best interests at heart. Thanks to AFTRA I can look forward to a pension. It was hard earned and that’s why I pay my dues.”
                                                                                               — AFTRA member Barbara Rosenblat

AFTRA members care

In addition to AFTRA member benefits, support is provided by other organizations offering services and aid to members and their families in need:
• The AFTRA Foundation, a separate tax-exempt organization funded entirely by voluntary contributions, works in various ways to benefit performers and broadcasters and supports the educational and charitable objectives of AFTRA.
• The Actors' Fund of America is a nonprofit organization founded in 1882 that provides for the social welfare of all entertainment professionals—designers, writers, sound technicians, musicians, dancers, administrators, directors, film editors, stagehands—as well as actors.
• The Betty Mitchell Sick and Benefit Fund provides financial aid to qualified AFTRA Chicago members.
• The Frank Nelson Sick & Benefit Fund provides emergency financial aid and other resources to qualified members of AFTRA Locals west of Omaha.
• The Motion Picture & Television Fund is a major service organization promoting the well-being of California's entertainment community.
• Theatre Authority is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 1934 to protect union members who wish to donate their time and talent to charities.
