UCOP Employee Health & Safety

The Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Department at Office of the President serves two primary roles:

  1. Support department managers and their employees in providing a safe and healthy work environment in all Office of the President locations; and
  2. Provide strategic guidance, leadership, and system-wide coordination to advance the goals of the University EH&S Program at all campus and medical center locations.

In order to best support safety at all locations, each department has at least one Department Safety Officer (DSO) who has been appointed by their department head and acts as the liaison between employees in their department and the UCOP EH&S Department. Additionally, Office of the President has established a Security and Safety Committee which is responsible for promoting a safe and secure workplace, define organizational security and safety needs, and provide the Executive Management with program recommendations and enhancements. The Security and Safety Committee meets quarterly consists of both management and employee representatives.

As computer use poses the greatest risk of injury to employees who work at OP locations, the EH&S Department has developed a comprehensive Ergonomic Injury Prevention Program which consists of Remedy Interactive, an online training and self-assessment tool; as well as personalized ergonomic evaluations. Since implementing this program, ergonomic related injuries have been reduced by over 75% in the last five years. To take advantage of this service, please click on the Ergonomic Self-assessment button below.
