Wall Mounted Sharps Disposal Containers
A small percentage of UCOP employees and visitors may be required to use needles and syringes for medical purposes. Under the California Medical Waste Act, used needles and syringes are defined as medical waste and must be properly handled and disposed of to prevent accidental needle stick punctures to UCOP employees, visitors, custodial staff, and landfill employees.
To properly manage used needles and syringes, wall mounted sharps disposal containers have been installed in all the restrooms at 1111 Franklin Street. The wall mounted containers will prevent accidental needle stick punctures. When the sharp containers are full, custodial staff will change the containers. Full containers will be picked up by a medical waste vendor for proper treatment and disposal in compliance with the California Medical Waste Act.
