Funding Opportunities - Office of Research and Graduate Studies

Research Grants Program Office - Programs and Grants

The Research Grants Program Office (RGPO) manages a diverse portfolio of programs and grants, which fund close to $100 million a year in faculty and graduate student research, as well as community programs and initiatives throughout California. These competitive programs and grants take advantage of the considerable expertise and resources available at the University of California, stimulating progress on issues and problems of critical importance to the University, the State and the nation. To learn more about these programs, and the types of grants and funding available, visit the RGPO Programs and Funding Opportunities page.

Graduate Studies - Programs and Initiatives

UC-HBCU Initiative
The UC-HBCU Initiative, managed by the Graduate Studies unit, seeks to increase the number of scholars from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) enrolling in UC academic doctoral programs by investing in UC-HBCU relationships. UC Faculty grants are available to support HBCU students conducting summer research with UC faculty at a UC campus. Funds are also available to support departmental efforts to facilitate increased applications from HBCU scholars to UC graduate programs. Learn more about the UC-HBCU Initiative.

For information on additional graduate studies programs and initiatives, email gradstudies@ucop.edu.

Immediate Office Initiatives

Research Opportunity Fund
The Office of Research and Graduate Studies has a limited pool of Research Opportunity Funds available to support one-time funding requests to initiate projects with strong potential for system-wide impact on UC's research enterprise. Funding is for small projects that are intended to spawn larger, long-term programs, supported by external funding, that will increase UC's competitiveness, advance research discoveries, impact the lives of Californians, inform public policy or support innovative graduate research. Funds are meant to complement opportunities currently offered through our Research Grants Program Office (RGPO), and will not be used to fund projects that fall naturally under RGPO programs: MRPI, Lab Fees Research, Discovery or the State-funded Research Programs. See announcement for details.
