The producers of the feature film “The Hobbit” – to be shot in New Zealand next year – have refused to engage performers on union-negotiated agreements. At a recent meeting, International Federation of Actors (FIA) decided that the situation had persisted long enough and it was time for action to be taken.

Members of Actors Equity Association (AEA), the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), Canadian Actors Equity, Screen Actors Guild (SAG), Equity UK, the Media, Entertainment & Arts Alliance (MEAA) and the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) are hereby advised not to accept work on this non-union production.

AFTRA Franchised Talent Agents are also hereby advised that pursuant to the AFTRA Regulations Governing Talent Agents they may not engage their AFTRA member clients for services provided to “The Hobbit.”
