ERS annually calculates the amounts of several hundred foods available for human consumption in the United States and provides estimates of per capita availability. For example, users can obtain pounds of beef available for domestic consumption per capita per year. Units of key variables depend on whether the commodity is a liquid or solid and other characteristics. Previously, this annual series was called the “food supply,” “food disappearance,” and “food consumption” data.
