The Bentley Historical Library was established in 1935 by the University of Michigan Regents to carry out two functions: to serve as the official archives of the university and to document the history of the state of Michigan and the activities of its people, organizations and voluntary associations. The materials in the Bentley Historical Library Web Archives reflect the mission and priorities of the library as we seek to preserve online resources of unique, essential, and enduring value.

Description: The University of Michigan hosted an interdisciplinary seminar series from September 2009 to April 2010 to engage faculty and students alike in business, law, public policy, medicine, public health, and genetics to explore the ethical, legal, and social implications posed by the rapid expansion of genomics services and research. A total of six events took place at Palmer Commons, including lectures and panel presentations from nationally and internationally recognized experts in the field. This series was funded by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies as a Distinguished Faculty and Graduate Student Seminar. This website contains information about the series events, discussions on the events, resources, and a U-M research network.

Description: Through the Office of the Vice President for Research and the Institute for Social Research, the Society 2030 consortium is embarking upon a three year program of learning, sharing, developing, and revolutionizing. The Society 2030 Consortium is made up of academics from the University of Michigan and representatives from companies in a variety of industries. Researchers from fields as diverse as biomechanics, psychology, and business make up the academic portion of the Consortium. And currently, companies in manufacturing, communications, and pharmaceuticals, among others, are committed to the Consortium. Society 2030 will bring together the corporate world with the academic world to proactively shape our changing society. To begin we will share cutting edge research and information by world renowned experts about what we now know and what we predict for the aging society. We will convene the corporate and academic consortium members to design a future society that will meet the changing needs of its members. We will identify what change or new developments are needed, what new knowledge might be necessary and develop mutually beneficial research as a team.

Description: U-M Tech Transfer is the University organization responsible for the transfer of University technology to the marketplace. Our organization consists of our central Office of Technology Transfer and one satellite office, OTT-North, located on North Campus in the College of Engineering. Our tech transfer team offers a full set of services to ensure effective technology transfer: Disclosure Facilitation - Professionals in our school and central office work with researchers and faculty to provide advice about potential tech transfer issues during research activities and to assist in the invention reporting process. Patenting and Other Protections - We provide guidance in planning an effective patent, copyright, or trademark strategy and handle all implementation details during the protection stage. Start-up Assistance - We provide proactive assistance in analyzing potential opportunities to form a start-up based upon U-M technology and encourage this interaction during the early invention reporting process. Our skilled New Business Formation Staff also provide hands-on business assistance, project planning and links to funding and people resources. Licensing - We assist in technical and market assessments and actively market U-M technologies to industry partners. We create secrecy, evaluation, material transfer, option and license agreements with these industry partners to effectively get our technology into commercial use. Legal Support - Our two full-time tech transfer staff attorneys, in partnering with the Office of the General Counsel, provide legal guidance and assistance for all of our U-M Tech transfer activities. Decision Support - Our business support and administrative staff provide information and guidance to conduct our business and expedite decisions by internal and external partners. We also advise interested parties on U-M policies & procedures including conflict of interest issues.
