Description: In 1950, the University of Michigan formally established the School of Natural Resources, the first of its kind in the world, but the study of natural resources and environmental problems has been part of the University for over 100 years. Fittingly, the school changed its name to the School of Natural Resources and Environment (SNRE) in 1992. In 2016, the newly formed School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) replaced the SNRE. "The School for Environment and Sustainability's overarching objective is to contribute to the protection of the Earth's resources and the achievement of a sustainable society." The school remains an international leader in educating students to be innovative and effective stewards of the environment.
