Title: Learning Mathematics for Teaching Project (University of Michigan) Web Archives

URL: http://sitemaker.umich.edu/lmt/home/

Collection: University of Michigan Schools, Colleges, Research, Centers, and Institutes Web Archives

Description: "Our project investigates the mathematical knowledge needed for teaching, and how such knowledge develops as a result of experience and professional learning. We do so through the writing, piloting, and analysis of problems that reflect real mathematics tasks teachers face in classrooms - for instance, assessing student work, representing numbers and operations, and explaining common mathematical rules or procedures. Assessments composed of these problems are often used to measure the effectiveness of professional development intended to improve teachers' mathematical knowledge."

Title: Study of Instructional Improvement (University of Michigan) Web Archives

URL: http://www.sii.soe.umich.edu/

Collection: University of Michigan Schools, Colleges, Research, Centers, and Institutes Web Archives

Description: "The Study of Instructional Improvement (SII) was a large scale quasi-experiment that sought to understand the impact of three widely-disseminated comprehensive school reform (CSR) programs on instruction and student achievement in high-poverty elementary schools. Over a four-year period, researchers at the University of Michigan followed schools working with one of three CSR programs —Accelerated Schools Project, America's Choice, and Success for All. The study also followed a set of closely matched comparison schools. The purpose of the study was to track implementation of the CSR programs in elementary schools and to investigate the impact of participation in these programs on teachers, students, and schools. This website provides readers with an online report that describes the SII research program and provides a narrative account highlighting selected findings.” The study started in January 1996 and ended in December 2009.
