Description: This fund was established in memory of Josh Rosenthal, a 1979 University of Michigan graduate who died in the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001. Josh earned a masters degree in public policy from Princeton University, and his deep interest in policy analysis and international affairs led him to work in the field of international finance. Josh's family and friends established the Josh Rosenthal Education Fund at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy to honor his memory and his interests. The Rosenthal Fund supports lectures, special seminars, student research, internships and other programs, encouraging new and deeper understandings of international issues. Description: "The Michigan Consortium for Education Research (MCER) is a partnership between the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Michigan State University (MSU), and the University of Michigan (UM). At the MDE, the Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI), Office of Educational Assessment and Accountability (OEAA) and the Office of School Improvement (OSI) all actively participate in the consortium. The School of Education at MSU and the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and the School of Education at UM make up the consortium’s other active members. The goal of MCER is to engage key stakeholders and experts in high quality education research for the benefit of public education in Michigan and nationwide. The consortium seeks to answer contemporary education policy questions. Description: "The National Poverty Center (NPC) was established in the fall of 2002 as a university-based, nonpartisan research center. We conduct and promote multidisciplinary, policy-relevant research on the causes and consequences of poverty and provide mentoring and training to young scholars. Located within the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, the NPC benefits from close proximity to an extensive and diverse group of University of Michigan-based scholars from such units as the Institute for Social Research; the Department of Economics; and the Schools of Education, Public Health, and Social Work. In addition, the NPC draws on the work of over forty nationally recognized scholars from around the country, our Senior Research Affiliates. Major funding for the NPC is provided through a cooperative agreement with the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. University of Michigan funders include the Ford School, the Office of the Vice- President for Research, the Institute for Social Research, and the Rackham School of Graduate Studies."
