Description: The University of Michigan Black Celebratory Planning Committee holds a special graduation ceremony each year for African American graduating seniors. The ceremony is intended to both celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating class and to "honor, respect, and remember those from our past and present communities who could only dream" of graduating from college. The Black Student History timeline documents the progress made by African American University of Michigan students between 1868 and 2003.
