Description: OISCA, The Organization for Industrial Spiritual and Cultural Advancement International, works to contribute to environmentally sustainable development through a holistic approach emphasizing the interconnectedness of agriculture, ecological integrity, and human spirit. To accomplish this, OISCA International implements and advocates hands-on experiential programs for world citizens of all ages, transmitting knowledge and skills, and cultivating spiritual qualities as dedication, self-reliance, and universal brother- sisterhood. “Industrial” refers to the promotion of agriculture and other primary industries that are fundamental to human existence. “Spiritual” does not denote a particular religion but rather the need to nurture qualities such as self-reliance, dedication for one`s own community, international brother-sisterhood and respect for Earth`s ecological integrity on which life is grounded. “Cultural” represents the intent to encourage the magnificent cultural diversity that has enriched human life and the universal need to promote cultural patterns such as culture of peace. Originally formed in 1972, the Japan Asian Association & Asian Friendship Society (JAFS) focuses on providing sustainable and safe drinking water to rural communities in South and South East Asia through building wells, pipelines and related infrastructure. As an international cooperation group, JAFS also provides disaster relief to the victims of catastrophic natural events throughout Asia.

Description: Gensuikyo was formed in 1955 at the height of anti-nuclear-testing movement in Japan. While the group protests nuclear warfare and advocates for the human rights of atomic bomb and nuclear testing victims, its reluctance to support a comprehensive ban on nuclear armament and unwillingness to renounce non-arms use of nuclear energy led to the separation and formation of another organization, Gensuikin, in 1965. Since its founding Gensuikyo has developed many forms of action to achieve three basic goals: 1) the prevention of nuclear war, 2) a ban on and the elimination of nuclear weapons, 3) relief for and solidarity with the Hibakusha, the A-bomb sufferers, through the annual World Conference Against A & H Bombs, which takes place every August, constant and nationwide signature campaigns for a ban on nuclear weapons, and other events and actions in cooperation with the Hibakusha to publicize the damage and health effects of the A-bombings to the general public.

Description: The Japan Chernobyl Foundation (JCF), an officially- approved Japanese Non-Profit Organization (NPO), collects donations to help victims of the Japan earthquake and nuclear accident. JCF was established in 1991 to provide aid, largely through medical treatment, in areas that were affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of 1986. Since that accident, many children with leukemia and other illnesses have been unable to receive sufficient medical care, due in part to serious economic trouble; many have also died from infectious disease due to poor hygiene. JCF, working closely with doctors in the affected areas, and in cooperation with medical professionals from Shinshu University and other institutions, has been involved in many humanitarian projects. In 2004, JCF expanded its support to include Iraq, a country that has seen a sharp increase in leukemia cases since the Gulf War. Subsequent economic sanctions and armed conflict in that region have led to shortages in medical care and to the loss of life.

Description: The Japan Congress Against A- and H-Bombs (GENSUIKIN) is an anti-nuclear advocacy group with its organizational roots in the anti-nuclear armament movement of the 1950s. The group's focus has since expanded to include protest against the use of nuclear energy and promotion of clean energy. GENSUIKIN was established in 1965, and is one of Japan's largest anti-nuclear and peace movement organizations. The group sponsors two major annual events: a public rally held in March, "3-1 Bikini Day," commemorates the crew of the fishing boat Daigo Fukuryu-Maru (Lucky Dragon), which was exposed to fallout from nuclear testing at Bikini in 1954; the World Congress Against A- and H-Bombs is held in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August, the month when atomic bombs were dropped on those cities. The group's core activities include efforts to foster solidarity with anti-nuclear activists around the world; anti-nuclear pro-peace campaigns; various initiatives toward a nuclear-free society; and activities in support of radiation victims. The organization's position is based on the understanding that human beings and "nukes" can never be compatible.

Description: Our organization was created to protect the environmental rights and interests of the citizens of the Russian Federation. To date, the environmental situation in Russia is abysmal; in the environmental rankings, Russia ranks 106th, behind leaders in pollution, such as India and China. The reason for this is flawed environmental legislation and ignorance on the part of citizens. We raise the banner of struggle against the catastrophic ecological situation in the Russian Federation. We are fighting for legitimate laws to protect the rights of the people to health, clean air, land, and water.

Description: This website aims to introduce you to the Japanese “Slow Living Movement.” In July 1999, ten or so people got together in Tokyo and started the Sloth Club. It became a catalyst of the so-called “Slow Life” movement in Japan, whose creed is “slow is beautiful." Some ten years later, the Sloth Club still exists and the word “slow” has become widely recognized. Slow can be understood to mean alternative, sustainable, ecological, local, and happy. Slow means “to connect”," with other people, with nature, etc. In the last ten years, we have witnessed positive changes all over Japan. The concept of slow has made an impact on many aspects of the society. The movement, for example, encouraged people to start acknowledging the richness of rural life and communities. Many like-minded groups have also formed to address issues as diverse as nuclear disarmament, peace between Japan and Korea, decentralization, and pollution. The movement as a whole is creating a new sustainable and ecological culture.

Description: Rural decline is a common phenomenon in urbanizing and developed countries. The Village Action Movement in Finland demonstrates that this is not an inevitable conclusion. 2800 villages, affecting the lives of 500,000 people have undertaken to make their villages viable and vibrant communities through projects of culture, leisure, communications, services, housing and economic development. They have overcome passivity, re-evaluated their priorities and chosen to emphasize their culture and build a rural lifestyle which is self-reliant and community based. The Village Action Association of Finland (in Finnish: Suomen Kylätoiminta ry or SYTY) promotes and develops village action and locally initiated rural development on the national level. The Village Action Association of Finland is an umbrella organisation for regional actors in rural development. Residents' Associations, village coalitions, LAGs and national central organisations are members of the Village Action Association. 2013 the Association has more than 130 member organisations.
