Description: Tender, by Jill Magid, is a public art project commissioned by Creative Time that began in September 2020. The project consists of 120,000 2020-issued pennies, the edges of which are engraved with the phrase, “THE BODY WAS ALREADY SO FRAGILE.” These pennies were then put into circulation through purchases at bodegas throughout New York City. The number of pennies evokes the $1200 stimulus checks that were issued by the U.S. Treasury as part of The CARES Act, which provided financial relief to individual citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. The website contains a biography of the artists, curatorial text, history of US currency and the 2020 coin shortage, press, images, and a video of the project.
