Collection: Tamiment-Wagner: Civil Rights and Civil Liberties
Description: This website was an archive dedicated to the trials of the Scottsboro Boys. Nine Black teenagers, Haywood Patterson, Charles Weems, Clarence Norris, Andy Wright, Ozzie Powell, Olen Montgomery, Eugene Williams, Willie Roberson, and Roy Wright were falsely accused of raping two white women on a Southern Railroad freight run on March 25, 1931. The results of the trials opened southern juries to Black people, exacerbated sectional strife, and divided America's political left.
