Title: Long-run Socioeconomic and Demographic Scenarios for California-Draft Paper

URL: http://www.energy.ca.gov/2009publications/CEC-500-2009-013/CEC-500-2009-013-D.PDF

Description: This report describes socioeconomic storylines and key scenario elements for California that are broadly consistent with the global “A2” and “B1” storylines in the 2000 Special Report on Emissions Scenarios of the Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change, including qualitative socioeconomic context as well as quantitative projections of key variables such as population, urbanization patterns, economic growth, and electricity prices.

Title: Observed Changes in the Sierra Nevada Snowpack: Potential Causes and Concerns-Draft Paper

URL: http://www.energy.ca.gov/2009publications/CEC-500-2009-016/CEC-500-2009-016-D.PDF

Description: A study of the California Sierra snowpack has been conducted using snow station observations and reanalysis surface temperature data. First-of-the-month snow water equivalent measurements were combined from two data sets to provide sufficient data from 1930 to 2007.

Title: The Impacts of Sea-level Rise on the California Coast - Draft Paper

URL: http://www.energy.ca.gov/2009publications/CEC-500-2009-024/CEC-500-2009-024-D.PDF

Description: Over the past century, sea level has risen nearly eight inches along the California coast, and general circulation model scenarios suggest very substantial increases in sea level as a significant impact of climate change over the coming century. This study includes a detailed analysis of the current population, infrastructure, and property at risk from projected sea-level rise if no actions are taken to protect the coast.

Title: Current and Future Impacts of Extreme Events in California - Draft Paper

URL: http://www.energy.ca.gov/2009publications/CEC-500-2009-026/CEC-500-2009-026-D.PDF

Description: This study synthesized existing research to characterize current understanding of the direct impacts of extreme events across sectors, as well as the interactions between sectors as they are affected by extreme events. It also produced new projections of changes in the frequency and intensity of extreme events in the future across climate models, emissions scenarios, and downscaling methods for producing regional climate information, for each California county.

Title: Estimating the Economic Impacts of Agricultural Yield Related Changes for California-Draft Paper

URL: http://www.energy.ca.gov/2009publications/CEC-500-2009-042/CEC-500-2009-042-D.PDF

Description: This research measured the economic effects of climate-related yield change in California crops. The overall conclusion from model runs is that, while the effect of climate change is manifest through yield changes, after economic adaptation, the results on irrigated crop production are predominately shown in economic terms and changes in aggregate land and water use.

Title: Projecting Climate Change Impacts on Forest Growth and Yield for California’s Sierran Mixed Conifer Forests-Draft Paper

URL: http://www.energy.ca.gov/2009publications/CEC-500-2009-047/CEC-500-2009-047-D.PDF

Description: Climate change will have profound effects on the distribution, function, and productivity of California’s forests. To provide managers with the means to anticipate likely forest responses to climate change, we initiated the development of a climate-sensitive growth and yield model for the mixed conifer forests of the Sierra Nevada (WS CalClim 1.0). WS CalClim 1.0 was built using the logic and architecture of the WESSIN variant (WS) of the Forest Vegetation Simulator. Our initial focus was on designing and testing a model of ponderosa pine productivity.

URL: http://www.energy.ca.gov/2009publications/CEC-500-2009-048/CEC-500-2009-048-D.PDF

Description: We model the interaction of climate‐dependent wildfire risk and one spatially explicit population growth scenario in California to generate measures of changes in wildfire risk to residential property under different scenarios for future climate.

Title: Projections of Potential Flood Regime Changes In California-Draft Paper

URL: http://www.energy.ca.gov/2009publications/CEC-500-2009-050/CEC-500-2009-050-D.PDF

Description: Simulation models are used here to weigh competing influences that might either increase or diminish future floods. Future characteristics of major storms, in particular pineapple express or atmospheric river storms, by global climate models indicated changes mostly at the extremes. Likewise, although the average intensity of storms was not projected to increase much in most climate models, occasional much-larger-than-historical-range storm intensities were simulated.
