Collected by: California State Library

Archived since: Apr, 2015

Description:

This collection preserves access to hundreds of California state agency websites and documents. State agencies utilize their websites to publish information including press releases, agendas, minutes, reports, statistics, and more. This material is especially volatile as leadership changes or as time sensitive issues are no longer on agendas or in the news. This collection is maintained by government information specialists from the California State Library.

Title: Observed Changes in the Sierra Nevada Snowpack: Potential Causes and Concerns-Draft Paper

URL: http://www.energy.ca.gov/2009publications/CEC-500-2009-016/CEC-500-2009-016-D.PDF

Description: A study of the California Sierra snowpack has been conducted using snow station observations and reanalysis surface temperature data. First-of-the-month snow water equivalent measurements were combined from two data sets to provide sufficient data from 1930 to 2007.

Title: Simulating the Cold Season Snowpack: The Impact of Snow Albedo and Multi-layer Snow Physics - Draft Paper

URL: http://www.energy.ca.gov/2009publications/CEC-500-2009-030/CEC-500-2009-030-D.PDF

Description: This study used numerical experiments to investigate two important concerns in simulating the cold season snowpack: the impact the alterations of snow albedo due to anthropogenic aerosol deposition on snowpack and the treatment of detailed snow physics using a multi-layer snow model.

Title: Projecting Climate Change Impacts on Forest Growth and Yield for California’s Sierran Mixed Conifer Forests-Draft Paper

URL: http://www.energy.ca.gov/2009publications/CEC-500-2009-047/CEC-500-2009-047-D.PDF

Description: Climate change will have profound effects on the distribution, function, and productivity of California’s forests. To provide managers with the means to anticipate likely forest responses to climate change, we initiated the development of a climate-sensitive growth and yield model for the mixed conifer forests of the Sierra Nevada (WS CalClim 1.0). WS CalClim 1.0 was built using the logic and architecture of the WESSIN variant (WS) of the Forest Vegetation Simulator. Our initial focus was on designing and testing a model of ponderosa pine productivity.
