The SBE's duties, as outlined in both the Constitution and statutes, involve appointing one deputy and three associate superintendents upon the State Superintendent of Public Instruction's (SSPI) nomination. Additionally, it is responsible for adopting textbooks for grades one through eight. As the governing and policy-making body of the state, the SBE is entrusted with various other responsibilities according to both the Constitution and statutes.
