Description: The non-profit Foundation for Environmental Protection and Research (ÇEVKOR) was founded in 1991 to provide an avenue for concerned young academics in Turkey to help protect the environment. ÇEVKOR publishes a free online quarterly scholarly journal, EKOLOJI (http://www.ekoloji.com.tr), as well as a popular journal, EKOLOJI MAGAZIN (http://www.ekolojimagazin.com/), featuring news about environmental and sustainability- related events and problems in Turkey. [Harvard appears to be the only U.S. library with print holdings of these titles, but their holdings end in 2004, which is when ÇEVKOR's online archive begins.]

Description: The All-Ukrainian Ecological League (VEL) is an NGO, founded on December 12, 1997. Its purposes are are: to improve the environmental situation in Ukraine through the formation of a new environmental philosophy and environmental rights; to create a foundation for sustainable development in Ukraine; to build a civil society in Ukraine, based on universal values and principles of environmental ethics; to protect - Building of civil society in Ukraine, based on universal values and principles of environmental ethics. The main objectives of VEL are: to expand public participation in national environmental policy and submit proposals for the improvement of environmental legislation; to influence national and local plans, budgets, and development programs that are crucial for environmental stabilization and improvement; to provide protection and restoration of the environment, biodiversity, and health of the citizens of Ukraine; to promote the integration of the environmental component in all sectors of public life and the economy; to organize public control over the implementation of environmental legislation; to carry out measures aimed at curbing the activities that threaten environmental security, biodiversity and health of the citizens of Ukrainee; to promote environmental awareness through the promotion of knowledge of the environment, improvement of environmental education and culture; to facilitate the development and introduction of energy-saving technologies in all sectors of economic activity.
