URL: http://www.swapkenya.org/home.php

Description: The Safe Water and AIDS Project (SWAP) is a non- governmental organization based in Kisumu Kenya with the following objectives: improving the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS, preventing the leading causes of illnesses and mortality in children such as diarrhea and malaria, and helping to generate income for HIV positive women. SWAP, officially registered as an NGO in 2006, trains HIV positive groups of women to sell and market public health goods to their communities: such as hand soaps, diapers, detergents, drinking water, water purification tablets, feminine hygiene products, mosquito nets, as well as water treatment and storage products. The provision of capacity building and training programs is meant to provide vulnerable HIV positive women, who are many times ostracized for their illness, with income generating activities that ultimately empower communities with improved water sanitation and hygiene standards.
