Noise Ordinance Reform

ASUCD President Adam Thongsavat and City and County Affairs Director Jeanna Gindi are working with the City of Davis to make reasonable amendments to the current City of Davis Noise Ordinance in order to make it more student friendly, without compromising the comfort of Davis’s non-student community members. This is a collaborative effort, and President Thongsavat is open to all input from students and other community members. Linked here is the proposal: Noise Ordinance Reform

City of Davis Police Forum

The Davis Police Department is in the initial stages of creating a new strategic plan for upcoming years 2012 through 2014. The current 3-year strategic plan ends December 31,2011, and the Police Department wants your help in creating the new plan.

The strategic plan is created after receiving input from community members, including UC Davis students, police employees, and other community stakeholders and is used to help the Department continuously focus its policing efforts.

The meeting will be held tonight, Wednesday 10/26, in Wellman 126. All members of the Davis community are encouraged to come learn more about this issue and voice their opinions. First years are highly encouraged to attend, as this change will have the greatest impact on them.

The 2009-2011 Strategic Plan can be accessed online at http://cityofdavis.org/police/pdfs/Strategic%20Plan%202009-2011.pdf

ASUCD Summit Success!

The ASUCD Summit this past weekend was a terrific success.  After a warm welcome, ASUCD President Adam Thongsavat and ASUCD Vice President Bree Rombi spoke about the importance of improving collaboration between Unit Directors.  The two keynote speakers were former ASUCD President Kalen Gallagher and former ASUCD Vice President Molly Fluet, who spoke about personal experiences at UCD and how they stayed connected to the University after graduating.  They were followed by ASUCD Business Office Interim Manager Geoff Straw and Campus Unions Executive Director Brett Burns, who discussed ways for Unit Directors to improve their units’ customer service.  Former ASUCD Interim Chief of Staff Carly Sandstrom then led a leadership exercise to introduce Unit Directors to one another.  Eddie Truong, the Director of Refrigerator Services, was also awarded the Distinguished Director Award for his success in improving unit sales.  As part of a philanthropic drive, participants brought basketballs to donate to Cal Aggie Camp.  The summit was followed by a tailgating party, which concluded with UCD Football beating the University of Texas, San Antonio to win the Homecoming Game!  Special thanks to all the ASUCD Senators and Unit Directors who attended the Summit and helped make it a success!

ASUCD Summit – 10/15

This Saturday, ASUCD President Adam Thongsavat will be hosting an ASUCD Summit for all Senators and Unit Directors.  The Summit will be led by Interim Chief of Staff Carly Sandstrom and will focus on service, specifically different ways individuals can serve as well as benefit from service.  ”Service was chosen as the theme of this seminar in order to demonstrate that every component of ASUCD –whether it is a unit, a senator, a commission chair, or the executive office– requires individuals to serve their peers, their customers, and their community through strong leadership and professionalism,” Sandstrom said.  To encourage collaboration, the Summit will also involve time for UCD student leaders to introduce themselves and explain their goals for the coming year.  The event will be catered by ASUCD’s very own Coffee House, and will end with a tailgate party at the Homecoming football game.
