The Associate Vice President’s Immediate Office is responsible for a range of departmental or UCOP wide functions, as well as coordination of systemwide information technology (IT) activities.

Departmental and UCOP wide functions include

• responding to inquiries and requests for action from the public, legislators, and other UC organizations;
• issuing IR&C communications, including announcements and service alerts and maintaining the IR&C Web site;
• directing the UCOP Information Security Program; and
• managing administrative functions.

Immediate Office personnel also are responsible for key systemwide information technology activities. These include the

• analysis and coordination of legislative and governmental relations issues;
• development and implementation of systemwide or multicampus technology initiatives;
• IT policy development and interpretation;
• records management; and
• coordination of campus FCC issues.

The AVP chairs monthly conference calls and quarterly meetings of the IT Leadership Council, which is composed of the campus, medical center, and national laboratory chief information officers and/or central IT leadership. The ITLC works in partnership with UC leaders across the system and at the Office of the President to articulate goals, strategies, and priorities for investment in and deployment of technology-based solutions that support the University's missions of teaching, research, public service, and patient care.

The AVP serves on the Board of the Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC), a membership-based organization that provides high-bandwidth, high-capacity network services for K-20 education institutions in California, and links to national networks.
