Update on the Outlook Migration

April 27, 2006

To: UCOP Community
From: Michael Shannon, Manager, IR&C Communication Services

I’d like to update you about our transition to Outlook for UCOP e-mail and calendar services. Last week we completed our second pilot, and about 200 UCOP employees are now successfully using Outlook.

Timeframe for Rollout
We plan to start migrating large groups of people (by department) to Outlook in early May. You can get more information and keep track of our progress on the Go Outlook! Web site at http://www.ucop.edu/irc/services/outlook/.

Outlook Training
R&C is offering classes on using Outlook that will coincide with the schedule for your department’s migration. You will receive more information via e-mail and your PC coordinator. We also recommend the online tutorials from Microsoft: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/training/CR061832721033.aspx. These are excellent and can be done on your own schedule.

Note for PDA Users
IR&C supports several PDA models that work well in the new messaging environment. If you plan to purchase a PDA, we recommend that you choose one from the list below, based on your individual needs, including whether you require wireless sync capability.

Contact your departmental PC coordinator for assistance with purchase and configuration.

Note for Mac Users
People who use Mac computers will be able to migrate to Entourage as a replacement for Eudora and Corporate Time. They will also be able to access their server-based e-mail from Outlook Web Access. The following system requirements apply for Mac users:

Further information is available on the Go Outlook! Web site: http://www.ucop.edu/irc/services/outlook/mac.html
