TechDesk Management Change

July 18, 2011
To: UCOP Community
From: Shirley Bittlingmeier, Director, IT Infrastructure Services

I am pleased to announce that TechDesk Manager Tara Brant has accepted a new opportunity within IR&C;, effective July 18, to lead development and implementation of departmental incident, change, and release management processes. Establishment of these processes is crucial for positioning the department to deliver new services while maintaining current resource levels, and I am delighted that Tara will direct these efforts.

Tara was instrumental in consolidating desktop computing support at UCOP and forming the TechDesk. Over the past few years she has led key TechDesk initiatives, including laptop encryption, installation of conference room projectors and, most recently, the Technology Asset Management Program.

To address the immediate need for TechDesk management during this transition phase, I have contracted with Carlos Silva, who comes to us from Delta Health Systems. Carlos has managed a number of Help Desks over the last 12 years and holds a B.S. in Electronic Engineering. Carlos begins his duties as Interim TechDesk Manager on July 18 and looks forward to meeting and hearing from customers. Over the next few months, I will work with Carlos and Tara on TechDesk process improvements and expect eventually to recruit for a permanent TechDesk manager.
