            Information Resources and Communications (IR&C)

Patrick Collins, IR&C Director for Information and Communication Services, will be leaving us effective July 29 to assume the role of Chief Information Officer at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation in Menlo Park. I am deeply grateful to Patrick for his significant contributions to positive change within IR&C and for his leadership in improving the range and quality of services that IR&C provides our customers. In light of Patrick's departure, I have implemented several organizational changes in IR&C. Following is a brief summary of those changes that most affect UCOP departments.

1. Paul Weiss will lead the Technology Support Services unit, which includes all technology platforms and architectures as well as the Desktop Support and Communication Services groups.

2. Bruce James will assume responsibility for the Application Technology Services unit, which includes all IR&C groups involved in developing and maintaining applications for UCOP and campus customers.

3. Carla Raffetto will assume a new role as IR&C's Customer Relationship Liaison for UCOP in addition to her existing position of Manager of the Web Development and Operational Systems groups. She will report to me in this new role and will serve as a liaison to colleagues within IR&C to ensure that we are listening and responding to the broad range of UCOP department needs.

4. Connie Williams will assume acting responsibility for the IT Strategic Sourcing group while recruitment for a permanent manager is underway.

There are no changes to the IR&C units and unit managers with whom you may have regular contact or interaction. I invite you to consult our revised organizational charts posted at http://www.ucop.edu/irc/orgcharts/ and to contact me with any questions or concerns that you might have.
