New Conference Call Service: ReadyTalk

June 10, 2004

To: UCOP Personnel
From: Michael Shannon, Manager, IR&C Communication Services

What Is ReadyTalk?
IR&C has arranged for a new conference call service for UCOP, called ReadyTalk. This service offers many features, is available at any time, requires no reservations, and can support up to 96 participants per call. ReadyTalk does not replace the existing UCOP MeetMe conference call service but is a convenient alternative for those who like having a designated 800 number for conference calls. In addition, ReadyTalk offers significant cost savings over AT&T or MCI conference call services.

Rate Comparison
AT&T: $0.62 per port/per minute
MCI: $0.24 - $0.32 per port/per minute (depending upon the type of service selected, whether unattended, 800 MeetMe, or operator assisted)
ReadyTalk: $0.09 per port/per minute for any type of conference call (there are additional charges for operator assisted calls)
UCOP MeetMe: $0.005 per port/per minute (a dial-in conference service)

Using ReadyTalk
ReadyTalk is available to UCOP beginning June 14, 2004. If you would like to use ReadyTalk, you should first request an e-mail kit by submitting the following Web-based form: http://www.readytalk.com/signup.php?signup_cust=ucal . The e-mail kit will be sent to you within 24 hours and will provide you with the information necessary to begin using ReadyTalk right away. You will receive a dedicated toll-free number, a unique 7 digit access code, and a 4 digit chairperson passcode. Each e-mail kit includes additional individual user account information and should not be shared with others within your department.

Using ReadyTalk is very simple: Conference call participants simply dial the ReadyTalk toll-free number and enter the 7 digit access code. Please note that ReadyTalk participants will hear only music until the chairperson activates the call by entering his/her own secure chairperson passcode.

Training
If you would like more information on the full capabilities of the ReadyTalk audio service, or are interested in conducting Web conferences, we recommend that you sign up for training (which is conducted by phone) by going to the following site: http://support.readytalk.com/training/. This link also is available from the Communication Services Web page at http://www.ucop.edu/irc/services/teleconf.html. ReadyTalk representatives will visit UCOP some time in August to meet UCOP staff, answer questions, and provide additional assistance. Communication Services will distribute the dates, times, and locations of this visit as soon as they are finalized.
