Discontinuation of Projector Set Up Service - March 16

Date: February 17, 2009

To: UCOP Community
From: David Ernst, Associate Vice President, Information Resources and Communications

Over the past year, the TechDesk has set up projectors and laptops for meetings and presentations in the UCOP conference rooms. This service has proven to be very time-consuming, detracting TechDesk resources from the high volume of pressing issues—such as viruses, system failures, and software problems—that we must address on a daily basis. Therefore, we have decided to discontinue the projector set-up service, effective March 16, so that we may focus our limited resources as optimally as possible.

Departments have been asked to establish an internal process for checking out and/or setting up projectors. Please contact your departmental IT liaison for information about your department’s procedures. Setting up projectors is very simple and most employees will be able to perform this task themselves. To facilitate this transition, we have posted detailed projector set-up instructions on the TechDesk Web site for both PC and Macintosh laptops. In the long run, I believe staff will find it more efficient to handle these arrangements directly rather than going through the TechDesk.

Thank you for your understanding as we modify our services to adapt to circumstances. If you have any questions, please contact the TechDesk at 987-0457 or .
