Network Problems at Franklin

A number of personnel at the Franklin building are experiencing intermittent network problems. Those people affected are frequently receiving messages from their Web browser such as "Cannot find server or DNS," and messages from their e-mail program such as "Error getting network address for popserv.ucop.edu - cause Host Not Found."

IR&C; has been working with Cisco Systems, our primary network equipment provider, to resolve the problem since it was first reported. The cause has proved difficult to diagnose, but we are doing everything we can to restore normal network service. Significant diagnostic work is being conducted and configuration changes were made to our network equipment last night. We are hopeful that these most recent changes will address the problem but, unfortunately, we cannot yet provide a time frame for resolution.
