Changes in Mail Services

April 25, 2008

To: UCOP Community
From: Kristine Hafner, Associate Vice President

As part of the UCOP restructuring initiative, several changes are being implemented in Mail Services to reduce cost and streamline work flow. The primary change involves transition to a single daily mail pickup and delivery schedule. Effective Thursday, May 1, mail pickup and delivery will occur between 11:15 and 11:45 in the Franklin Building, and between 2:30 and 3:30 at all other UCOP Oakland buildings. Departmental personnel also may drop off items in the mail room (6315 Franklin) as usual to meet afternoon deadlines for U.S. mail and express services.

Other changes involve elimination of hand delivery/messenger services and the daily run to the Berkeley campus. Please note that UCB mailing services will assume responsibility for transportation of unstamped campus mail between UCB and UCOP. Effective July 1, the UCOP Mail Services unit will transfer from IR&C to Facilities Administration, where mail services aligns well with Building Services work.

I am confident that you will continue to receive excellent service and experience minimal impact as a result of these changes. More detailed information about the new pickup/delivery schedule and other service changes is posted on the Mail Services Web site for your reference. Please contact Mail Services Supervisor Tony Magurno if you have any questions.
