Update on the Desktop/Server Support Consolidation

March 31, 2008

To: UCOP Community
From: Kristine Hafner, Associate Vice President, Information Resources and Communications

The consolidation of desktop and server support for UCOP departments in Oakland is well under way. IR&C has concluded the internal recruitment for Technology Support Analysts, and our new staff members will join the UCOP TechDesk on Monday, April 7. We will post positions for external recruitment this week.

Starting April 14, UCOP departments will be provided centralized desktop/server support according to a migration schedule available on the TechDesk Web site. The specific order of departments allows the TechDesk staff to manage the smaller, less complex transitions first. We anticipate that each migration will take about a week (although we may need to adjust the schedule to adapt to any unforeseen circumstances) and that all departments will be migrated to the centralized support model by early fall.

We are working hard to ensure that departments are prepared for the transition: Departmental administrators will receive detailed information in advance, and Director Michael Shannon and TechDesk Manager Tara Brant will meet directly with departmental staff to discuss the process, describe TechDesk services, and answer questions. In addition, they will review our Service Level Agreement, which commits IR&C to high standards of responsiveness and customer service.

The IR&C TechDesk team is very proud to have this opportunity to provide desktop and server support services to the UCOP community. Thank you for the confidence that you have shown in us. Please do not hesitate to contact Director Shannon or Manager Brant if you have any questions.
