I would like to remind you that discounts for cellular phone equipment and service are available for UCOP corporate use and for UCOP employees' personal use. These discounts are offered as part of the State of California Alliance, of which the University of California is a member.
UCOP departments directly handle ordering and billing for cell phones and service. Communication Services is available, though, to assist you with selecting cell phones, service, and accessories, as well as all Treo and Blackberry models for PDA/cellular phone equipment (http://www.ucop.edu/irc/cellphones.html). Contact Communications Services for information at (510) 987-0709. Stay tuned for information about phone fairs planned for this spring and summer. The fairs are hosted by Communication Services and Cingular and Verizon Wireless, respectively.
Information on available discounts is provided below.
Cingular (AT&T;) Wireless
Discounts afforded to UCOP corporate accounts are up to 25% on monthly voice and data plans; equipment discounts are available at a lower percentage. Employee discounts are offered at a lower percentage. To take advantage of the employee discounts, employees are encouraged to visit
any authorized Cingular store and reference the employee foundation account number of 33479. The Cingular Wireless store at Shellmound and Bay Street in Emeryville hosted the 2006 Cingular Wireless phone fair at UCOP. Their staff has met many of you and can assist you with the latest products and plans. Have your UCOP identification (building) pass or business card handy for authenticity. Verizon Wireless
Verizon Wireless offers competitive rates for equipment and service for corporate and employee use. Because UC receives special government rates as part of the California Wireless Contract (CWC) for the State of California, UCOP employees can take advantage of local and national rate plans created exclusively for the CWC. Discounts are up to 25% on monthly voice and data plans for corporate accounts. Employee discounts are offered at a lower percentage. For employee pricing, contact Kelly Giunta at (916) 508-5333. SprintNextel Communications
SprintNextel offers corporate discounts of 22% on monthly service and a 30% (approximate) discount on equipment. In addition, Sprint is currently offering a $50 service credit for new activations with no contracts (everything is month to month). For employee orders, discounts are up to 15% on monthly service and 30% (approximate) on equipment on a two-year contract term.
