Faked UC E-mail Messages
April 20, 2004
To: UCOP Personnel
From: Patrick Collins, Director, IR&C Information and Communication
Services
UCOP personnel are receiving e-mail messages that probably contain
viruses
but look as though they were sent from legitimate e-mail accounts
from
UCOP, the campuses, and other locations. The subject line is generally
"Delivery failure notice." The message reads "Delivered message
is
available," or some variation of that.
Please do not open the attachment but immediately delete the message.
IR&C
is working to address the cause of this attack and will provide
more
information later. If you opened an attachment to one of these
e-mails,
please contact your departmental PC Coordinator immediately.
