Institutional Advancement

The purpose of the Department of Institutional Advancement is to articulate, facilitate and encourage financial and other support for the maintenance and enhancement of the University's capacity to fulfill its mission of teaching, research and public service. In this context, support means private gifts, grants and contracts, as well as federal and state appropriations and contracts. It also means non-financial assistance in the wider sense of an active understanding and appreciation of and support for the University's tripartite mission.

The Office of Development Policy and Administration, the core unit of Institutional Advancement, provides a number of private support-related services for the University community including endowment stewardship, administration and allocation of gifts and bequests, reports on private support, policy development and compliance review, planned giving programs, and legislative analysis. It is the office of record for more than 4,000 endowed funds -- approximately 160 endowments annually, for gifts of one million dollars and more, and for foreign gifts to the University and the Campus Foundations. These responsibilities have been mandated by the State Constitution, statutes governing trusts, and the Bylaws and Standing Orders of The Regents.
