AFTRA Supports BBC Broadcasters Represented By NUJ

Posted August 03, 2011

AFTRA National President Roberta Reardon released the following statement of support to BBC journalists - members of the National Union of Journalists – who are at odds with their employer over various job issues, including layoffs of more than 300 employees. On Monday, they staged a 24-hour strike:

"AFTRA members proudly stand in support of our BBC colleagues who are members of NUJ. These men and women are struggling to save their jobs to provide their audiences with quality news and information. We call on the BBC to return to the bargaining table and negotiate a fair contract with the BBC Journalists who work to serve the public’s interest in receiving fair, accurate and objective news reporting."
