The people who entertain and inform America proudly congratulate and wish AFTRA member Regis Philbin farewell, after hosting the AFTRA-covered television program “Live with Regis and Kelly” for an astounding 28 years. Philbin began his career in the 1950’s as a page for “The Tonight Show” before becoming a news and sports writer, which developed into reporting jobs. His first talk show, “The Regis Philbin Show,” was first broadcast in San Diego, which led to his next Emmy Award-winning talk show entitled “Philbin’s People” broadcast in Los Angeles.
Philbin’s rising popularity landed him several guest appearances, and it was his appearance on “The Joey Bishop Show” that first gave him national attention and catapulted him to stardom. He has since hosted countless AFTRA shows over the decades, including “America’s Got Talent” and “Who Wants to be a Millionaire,” for which he won his first Daytime Emmy in 2001. Since then, he was won four more Daytime Emmy’s including as host of “Live.” Philbin, an AFTRA member for 50 years, is no stranger his Union. In 2008, he presented longtime friend and fellow AFTRA member Susan Lucci with the AFTRA Foundation’s AFTRA Media and Entertainment Excellence Award in Entertainment.
