What is a finding aid? || || U. S. Senator Sam Nunn (D-GA) was born 8 September, 1938, in Perry, Georgia. He was elected to the Georgia General Assembly to represent Houston County in 1968, and again in 1970. In 1971, Nunn was elected to fill the U.S. Senate seat left vacant by Senator Richard B. Russell's death. He served four terms, retiring in 1996. While in office, he served on the Senate Armed Services Committee (1972-96; chair 1986-94), the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations (1974-96; chair 1979-81 and 1987-94), the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence (1983-91), Senate Small Business Committee (1972-96) and the Senate Select Committee on Secret Military Assistance to Iran and the Nicaraguan Opposition (1987). In 1985 he helped to found the Democratic Leadership Council (DLC). Access to many of the materials in the Nunn archive is RESTRICTED.
