Farm and Farm-Related Employment: Download Data

You can download the farm and farm-related employment data. There are two types of files: a comma-separated file (CSV) and a Microsoft Excel file (XLS). Both formats are available compressed into smaller ZIP files.

Release Date

March 2005. This release includes data for 2002 and revises estimates for 1998-2001.

These data will no longer be updated or maintained because some of the necessary underlying data are no longer available to ERS.

Data Layout

1. Geographic area, i.e., U.S., States, farm production regions, or farm resource regions
2. Year, 1981-2002
3. Farm industry variables, i.e., meat products, dairy products, farm proprietors
4. Total employment
5. Metro area employment
6. Nonmetro area employment
7. Statewide, unclassified employment
