Academic Planning, Programs and Coordination
Academic Planning, Programs and Coordination supports the campuses' strategic academic planning, decision making, and innovation; informs budgeting, including budget trade-off decisions; and ensures greater transparency and public accountability. To fulfill that mission, the unit seeks to articulate and foster a shared understanding of the long-term vision for the UC system, understand the plans and requirements for each campus, and consider how to respond to emerging trends in higher education, research, the economy and other areas that affect the University. APPC is also responsible for evaluating and reporting on the University's progress in achieving its academic goals in the President's accountability framework, and it provides leadership, support, and oversight for innovative academic initiatives mounted on a systemwide basis.
APPC responsibilities include the following:

- Systemwide Academic Programs, which includes oversight of:
- Education Abroad Program
- UC Sacramento Center
- UC Washington Center (UCDC)
- And acting as systemwide liaison to University Extension
- Strategic Publishing and Broadcast Services, including:
- California Digital Library (CDL) supports the assembly and creative use of the world's scholarship and knowledge for the University of California libraries and the communities they serve.
- Language Learning Consortium fosters collaboration among and across language programs at the UC campuses to increase student access to language study through a combination of the best classroom practices, technological enhancements and education-abroad programs.
- Office of Scholarly Communication facilitates partnerships with internal and external constituencies to assist scholars in the use of new and sustainable means of scholarly communication, such as the eScholarship program.
- Office of Systemwide Library Planning provides strategic leadership and planning support for the long-term growth of the University's library collections and services.
- UC College Prep (UCCP)develops and distributes high-quality courses and course content to benefit California students, with a special emphasis on helping underserved students prepare for college eligibility.
- UC Press, one of the largest and most distinguished university presses in the United States, advances scholarship in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences through its publication of thousands of books and journals, online and in print.
- UCTV delivers – via web, satellite and cable – documentaries, faculty lectures, cutting-edge research symposiums and artistic performances from each of the 10 UC campuses, as well as UC's national laboratories and affiliated institutions.
